This song is not about love, it's about life being short and ugly sometimes, so we have to enjoy every time of it. Maybe it's not the most appropriate time, but all of us need time to enjoy ourselves. And just in case anybody thinks a girl's purpose on life is to find a man, "Some boys take a beautiful girl / And hide her away! from the rest of the world / I want to be the one to walk in the sun...!" sends the message that it's better to have no man than having one who controls you.
