On a live recording of this song I (mis)heard Sue saying 'chains makes me think of twins' (see link below) and so I interpret that the lyrics are about chains of DNA. Since we are all made of DNA - we are all linked and identical twins are genetically the same (thus the line 'I'm you and you're me'). Yet there is special, perhaps deeper link between them (the attitude, the words they use etc).
