Think this song is about how shit soceity is. As it states "we drink poison drop by drop" implying all we do is get pissed. And the line "we sell our soul for the chance of gold" makes me think even though the band is not religious that we do wrong things in soceity such as steal etc for the money. and at the begining it says the city greives which i think is implying soceity has got so bad the city grevies.
or maybe / and its about how we pollute the world as it goes on to say 'the sky turned red, and then came the rain" ie red is usally seen as a bad colour for pollution... and by the rain he could be implying acid rain or something else but im not 100% sure or even 50% sure i should say.
I agree with clutchhunter's comment. Religion and doing good have no link here; you don't have to believe in religion to do good in this world. Funnyguy5 is part right. The song is defintely about how society is so screwed up today. Society has become so corrupted, greedy and selling others out for their own benefit regardless of the consequences.

and also believe it talks about
Why should doing good be implicitly linked to religion? They're unrelated.
