I feel this is an angry struggle against religious views of homosexuality. I believe those laser eyes and the pneumatic fingers which nearly had him in their vice, was about the urging of religion telling him that he can't give in to his sexual tendencies, and the fear of going to hell if he did being imprinted on his mind, and him struggling against that. Saying "you can't break me...."
What my personal views of this are isn't revelant, so lets not get into any of that.
