Idiot Summer Lyrics

This song has local references to the Gin Blossoms' hometown of Tempe, Arizona in it.

Four Peaks is a local mountain. It is also the name of the brew pub next door to Robin Wilson's recording studio in Tempe.

It does get 110 degrees here in the summer, almost every day. It's sort of a joke that "autumn is coming" because we really don't have autumn in Southern Arizona. It just gets cooler - down to 80 or 90 degrees, maybe.

I don't know about the bugs crawling, maybe it refers to trying to sleep in the heat and lying awake because it's so hot.

Tucson is about 2 hours away; I think the part about trying to help someone choose could refer to a summer decision of whether to go to college in Tempe (Arizona State University) or Tucson (University of Arizona). Both are college towns.

Finally, I think a lot of Arizonans think summer here is "idiot"...we have a love/hate relationship with it. "I like the goddam heat..." Hope this helps!
