Let It Grow Lyrics

This song symbolizes the changing attitudes of a generation (which happens to be the generation of my parents) away from arbitrary strictures and towards, as Eric Clapton says so well, simply letting it grow. It is one of the simplest and best examples from a time in history when a generation was bold enough to cast off old traditions and build a new belief system that valued authenticity over things that mattered less. While there are many valid criticisms of the counterculture of this era, this song makes me lament the loss of the idealism and belief that authentic interaction really can change the world.

My Interpretation

@harrisonts YES, I think you’re spot on! I was in my teens when this hit the charts (radio!) and didn’t realize at the time, but you hit the nail on the head man/woman! There was alot of social unrest and challenges to NOT be like your parents, break out of the ‘mold’ so to speak. But Clapton had handfulls of good music. Let it Rain as 1 example. Rock on Folks!
