I'm really sad because... I love love love this song and a few days ago I came to this page and there was nothinggggggg, so I started thinking about what this song means and I think:
It means nothing! The lyrics are slightly cryptic and the verses kind of have nothing to do with each other. So that makes me think they just wanted it to sound like it was really deep even though they just didn't have any other deep personal experiences to write a song about. (hence their only having one album) And the momma don't put no gun in my hand part just reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody...I don't think that's what they were going for?? But what wereee they going for then?
Prove me wrong! I want this song to havvvvve a meaning cause I still love it!
I also thought of the reference to Bohemian Rhapsody. And that when he says "I dont want to end up like these men" (even thought it is in plural) maybe he is referring to the man in Bohemian Rhapsody who has to say good bye to everybody.

I definitely think it's an allusion to Bohemian Rhapsody (the obvious similarities in words and the abrupt changes in the song). That song is an allusion to the book "The Stranger" by Camus. That book is
about a man who is so apathetic about life that he kills a man for no reason. I think what the song is saying in regards to this is that he isn't like the stranger... He's not "killing" the relationship because he doesn't care. He's leaving because he does care. Because it's better for both of them if they go their separate ways....
