i dont necessarily think that he is questioning the existence of GOD, but i believe he is asking why don't i feel you because i want to be close to you.I have believed you were there and now it's BLACK AND GOLD ,my vision is blurry ,im not seeing what I WANT to see.Sam wanted to see everything laid out in front of him so that it;ll all be clear instead he;s seeing black and gold.
sam is scared, the stuff he sees is his only knowledge of what is real( HIS ONLY VALIDATION).so if what he believed in so long is not really there than he doesn't want to live, he wants to be with the one he believed in, GOD(wants to be in heaven)he only knew that GOD LOVED him,probably no one else loved him so there is no reason to live.FYI: the gold in lack and gold might stand for the gold streets in heaven.
