Great song, this whole album is very relatable. My take on this song is based on my own experience. I was "under the spell" of this girl so to speak. She was the type that buys into all of the current social trends only not to an extreme extent. In the beginning it seemed like she held all of the cards. She was always the "popular girl" in my mind, years went by and we both grew up, me more than her. After being through enough and realizing she would never quite see things the way I did our roles become reversed in my eyes, I began to realize my individuality and difference from the rest of mainstream society is a gift rather than a curse. Its that glorious moment that is captured perfectly through the lines "You were my crutch, now I've escaped your clutch, so how is that worm's eye view? I have grown two broad wings and now I'm above you" To me Max Bemis will always be the 1st Max Bemis rather than the next Bob Dylan but with that being said its hard not to say Max isnt a Modern Day Dylan
