Just figured out some more of this after I posted it...
First chorus is probably actually "I wouldn't bet my life" on both lines
I knew 'nearly-crime' was wrong, I now know it's "The daily grind" in all three instances (confirmation by Tweet!

First line of the second verse is "England is sick and I'm a casualty"
The missing line before the second chorus is "Fellini couldn't have dreamt of this"
