This song describes addictions in general. How the addiction becomes a part of them and the addicted has to struggle a lot if he/she wants to stop it.

"I feel ashamed, again and again Nothing to give, and no-one to blame During the day, I guess I'm OK" X2 He feels bad (I feel ashamed). He feels like he isn’t doing well enough, maybe failing to his family, bad grades at school, etc. (Nothing to give) And he acknowledges that he is the only one responsible for it (and no-one to blame) But who knows? Maybe it’s nothing. (During the day, I guess I'm OK)

"I feel ashamed, again and again Nothing to give, and no-one to blame During the day, I guess I'm OK" X2

"I feel ashamed, again and again Nothing to give, and no-one to blame During the day, I guess I'm OK"

"At night I sit by your side Waiting for you, to give me a sign I'm counting the days And have nothing to say" When he thinks no one is watching him (At night) He approaches to his addiction addiction (I sit by your side) In hope that his addiction could make him feel better (Waiting for you, to give me a sign) However, he doubts about his addiction, and he tries to just leave it. (I'm counting the days and have nothing to say)

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh I hope I can chill and stay the same Stop the bleed inside and feel again Cut the chain of lies you've been feeding my veins I've got nothing to say to you I hope I can chill and stay the same Stop the bleed inside and feel again Cut the chain of lies I've been beating and beating and beating myself...” He really wants to leave his addiction and have a normal life again (I hope I chill and stay the same) His addiction hurts him, so he wants to stop it. (Stop the bleed inside and feel again) (I’ve got nothing to say to you) This line summarizes a lot of his feelings towards the addiction. However he is struggling in his fight against his addiction: He really wants to continue, he feels like he can’t live without it. (Cut the chain of lies you've been feeding my veins) But he really wants to stop, his addiction is damaging him (Cut the chain of lies I've been beating and beating and beating myself)

… …

*His addiction got him again.

"I feel ashamed, again and again, nothing to give, no one to blame, during the day I guess I'm OK At night, I sit by your side Waiting for you, to give me a sign I'm counting the days, and have nothing to say" But he feels bad again; he tries one more time to leave his addiction behind.

But the temptation is so strong… "Cut the chain of lies, you've been feeding my veins" X7 At one point, he is tempted again. He cannot lie to himself; he wants to “feed his veins” again...

*He crumbles to his addiction again...

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh I hope I can chill and stay the same Stop the bleed inside and feel again Cut the chain of lies you've been feeding my veins I've got nothing to say to you I hope I can chill and stay the same Stop the bleed inside and feel again Cut the chain of lies I've been beating and beating and beating myself..." So he is regretting for falling to temptation once again.

"I hope I can chill and stay the same
Stop the bleed inside and feel again
Cut the chain of lies you've been feeding my veins
I've got nothing to say to you

So he really wants to stop and have a normal life again Stop all the pain that his fight causes him Yet he is struggling a lot He just wants to leave it behind without hesitating anymore “I hope I can chill and stay the same Stop the bleed inside and feel again Cut the chain of lies I've been beating myself without nothing to say to you, Nothing to say to you" He wants to leave his addiction Stop all the problems that this causes to him Even if sometimes he thinks about returning, it would only cause him more pain He wants to just leave it without ever thinking about it again.

Song Meaning

Some people say the song is about heroin (like "feeding my veins"), but that's just a metaphore that could be applied to pretty much any addiction.

And sometimes it looks like it's referring to a relationship (sit by your side/ waiting for you/ nothing to say to you), but that's because in the song they refer to the addiction like a person.

Maybe they got the inspiration from an problematic relationship (or heroin), but in any case they managed to abstract all those feelings and express them so well that it can apply to any addiction.
