The way I interpret this song is that it's about someone who is experiencing depression. They have been suicidal, possibly attempting more than once. But it's from the point of view of someone who is close to that person. Could be a friend, lover, family member. Sounds like this is more about a friend. I think about my mom when I hear this song. I put my family through something very similar to this. Thankfully we all came out stronger for it. My mom is my biggest supporter and my best friend now. I didn't realize at the time what I was putting those close to me through, but now I look back and realize how much I was hurting them. I'll always be grateful that we got through it.
