I may have spelled marley clay incorrectly, and I'm not really sure what it is. (I couldn't find anything that places it in a religious context, although I gather the information exists somewhere.) I believe it is a mixture of clay, sand, shell pieces, and limestone, and that it's soft and can be molded by hand. Interpreting the song? It's difficult w/o understand the relevance of marley (or marly) clay. S/he's got "good religion," though. That one's a given:)
