Simply Simple Lyrics

Kinda sounds like this songs from the point of a view of a guy (or girl) who's young and afraid to become grown up and have kids and such. The "norms" in society are to get married and have kids and raise them until you're gone, hence the "I'm not the way I ought to be/ I'm just the way I got to be," he would "hurt you emotionally" because he's not looking for a wife or a commitment, since those are his exact fears. The rest follows as fairly straightforward with this interpretation except for maybe this line: "Call me lazy for I have yet to let my soul free/ it's still very much in my reach" I'm thinking that this line just means that people are telling him that he needs to let his soul go free and find love for himself, but he's still very under control of it, and afraid to let it go.
