Not to be an ass, but Adele made a remake of this. The original is Brandi Carlile's. I love Adele, don't get me wrong, but this song was <i>made</i> by Brandi Carlile. No one can replace it.
Also, I think the primary meaning of this song is spelled out well. She meets someone who she falls in love with, but because she's been burned before there can't be a happy ending. She won't give all of herself to them, no matter how great the person is or how much she is loved by them.
It's a gorgeous song. (But then again, Adele and Brandi both make gorgeous music).
