One of my favorites from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Basically, the idea I get from this song is that it's about a man stuck in a remote barren landscape and he's haunted because he killed a woman and threw her down the well that he's referencing. Probably killed her because he was isolated with her and isolated people often go a little crazy in one way or another. He keeps revisitng the well that he dumped her in and he's completely miserable and guilt stricken. I think of a dead woman in a well because he mentions his little floating girl and he mentions that he dare not sleep where the right winds whistle or he feels that her soul will come back and clutch at his heart. Actually, a pretty creepy song but then again, much of Cave's work is creepy.
