Now for a post that isn't about my personal link to the song. Hopefully people who thought my previous post was too long will read this, same for those who read my last post, hopefully this is also interesting.
In general this song appears to be about a relationship/friendship that was hurting a person. Once the person realised this, they also realised they didn't want/need this person in their life anymore. To save myself making two huge posts, I'll leave lyrics out of this one, just talk about each section in turn.
The first section of the song mentions how this friend/partner would constantly undermine the person. Everyday they would hear constant insults. Furthermore this friend/partner is a 'voice of reason'. To me this says that they weren't just a person they knew a little, this is the first bit to make me think it is about a close friend/relationship. Being a voice of reason, this person isn't just attacking them, they are logically saying things that they know will hurt the person, but maybe not bluntly enough to appear like an obvious attack on them. Maybe they want to make them less confident in themselves to take advantage of them?
The part about them trusting them, and there being no one else again makes me believe what I mentioned about. Only adding that maybe this was the only person that they though they could trust with something, and the answers/replies they got made them doubt whether they were right.
The second section is obvious, they hurt and weakened this person. Now it's over, their time of doing this is ending.
The third section is the person saying their friend/partner was a lie, not really a person they could trust with anything. They wasted their time and trust with them. They now have either new friends/people to confide in/a relationship/can go it alone. But the point is, they have something else to save them. Something they can trust, the old person isn't needed or wanted.
The next section is them admitting this has left them weak, fragile. However, they aren't a fool, they are now careful about who they trust with anything. They've learned from the last person hurting them so badly. And now they can't hurt them anymore, they know what this person can do, and won't fall for it.
The two lyrics from the fifth section are saying, I thought you were there for me. It took me so long to realise that wasn't true at all. You were there for you.
Section 6 is already covered, I won't sit here and take this anymore. The person has moved on, gotten up and left the old friend/partner behind.
The seventh section is them telling the person this. Anything you can will make no difference, I stopped listening to you ages ago. I don't care anymore, my attention isn't focused on you anymore. You aren't who you say you are, you're not my friend but my enemy. And I will deny you the chance to hurt me again.
