This is actually really easy to understand. This is a very dysfunctional relationship.
The first bit, she's talking about how this lover tells her "I love you" but she doesn't believe it and maybe her lover does have love for her, but not more than Dev loves herself. She tells him, you know me, but not better than I know myself and then she takes a stand and says either love me like you say you do or give me back the parts of me you've got a hold of.
However in the 2nd verse she shows weakness and says it will be over her dead body before she'll move on and rather than leave she'd rather her lover start showing the love this person has for her. Then in the bridge she reiterates how much she wants the person she's singing to but also how much she wants to be herself again and get "that girl" back.
The music video for this song really brings this into light since Dev puts her own body in a body bag and drags it around town and then essentially takes her out to dig a grave for herself. The two Devs even sing to each other before Dev lets the old her die and gets rid of her putting her past in the ground and then getting in her cat.
It's something I understand. So many things change us and people change us and you sometimes long for the chance to go back to who you used to be, but it's all for naught because our experiences can change us much that we can't go back and all you can do is bury the bits of you from the past and look to the future. This is honestly the best song I've heard from her. Nice to hear a song that isn't about partying or sex or alcohol from her for once.
