"Slash-and-burn is an agricultural technique which involves cutting and burning of forests or woodlands to create fields" according to Wikipedia, Slash N' Burn (spelt that way) was also a technique used in Vietnam by the US Army to - clear forests. But I don't think that necessarily means the song is about deforestration itself.
It seems to be emptiness of today's 'culture' both in everday life and buisiness but that's just me reading into it, i have nothing to back that up.
