This hymn was at first a poem by Carl Boberg (Swedish) that became a Swedish folk song, which was not a hymn at all, then it was translated in English by a British Christian missionary, Stuart K Hine who added some verses, and obviously made it into a hymn.
I love how Elvis sings it! It makes me smile at church when we sing it, because I cannot remove from my head Elvis' voice and I think we sound pretty bad! :)
