I think like most of the songs in the album, this is about the state of our planet, in fact it's pretty obvious it is. It works well as a closing track though, because I feel the lyrics are a little more positive and optimistic, they're about looking to the future and making a change.

I really like this line: "I'm more confused than ever but I don't beg or pray / 'cause the sparkling light from the morning sun / Is all we should need to feel one". I think he is saying that the only inspiration we should need to change our ways and ensure a future is the beauty of nature and the world.

I think the two train tracks represent different paths that humanity can go down - one path, the path we are currently on, leads to destruction. The other does not.

The metaphors of time in this song are really interesting. In my opinion they represent the doomsday clock - a hypothetical clock which represents how close we are to doomsday, with midnight being global disaster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock. "There's a train at 12:00, destination: disaster / It's running on time as time runs faster" - if we continue to live the way we do it will be disastrous, and as each day passes the problems seem to get worse. "On platform two it's destination: sustainability / It's delayed though, it was supposed to arrive at 11:50" - we should have changed our ways a long time ago, by now it might be too late.

As the song goes on the 'train for sustainability' never arrives, it is then that he realises that this change won't come from nowhere, we can't simply hop onto a train that will take us down that path. We need to take action and make it happen using "our own two feet". It then goes in to the idea that it is not too late, we still have the power to build a new sustainable future, a society where everything is fair and equal, it's quite optimistic.

Throughout the song the line "And I am lost, so lost, you are the constellations" is repeated, I'm not actually sure what this could mean. Perhaps by "you" he is referring to mother nature, and that our primal instinct to survive will drive us down the right path eventually. No matter what happens, the stars in the sky, the constellations will always be there to guide us. Not sure.

Song Meaning

Seems pretty obvious, as mentioned, yeah. As for the 'you' in the constellations part; I was wondering about that myself. My best guess so far is that it's a bit of a 'shoutout' to ES's fans: they are the constellations that guide them through their work.
