Cover art for Ayla lyrics by Maccabees, The

First of all, this album is brilliant. I think all the songs just go so well with the album title. I really fell for this song when the album came out. I think it is beautiful and I just love the first verse. I can really relate to it:

"Aimless am I Listless I'm the blunt of the knife Drifting to the corners of life"

I think that first part is amazingly written. Anyway, I believe this song is about being lonely and bored with life and trying to get out of that mindset. The first verse really shows that (to me at least). And the narrator of the song is probably in love with 'Ayla', and he thinks she can make him happy and change his life around for the better. He dreams about being with her:

"It's a weight off my mind I could trust you, you could tell me it's fine I could sew you a stitch and save nine Ayla"

That's my short interpretation of it. I really don't have any other explanation, but I would be more than glad to get feedback and other ideas to what this might be about. Thanks.
