I'd say the message of this song is pretty obvious, but the lyrics are nonetheless powerful and actually quite relevant. I don't think it's specifically about digging for oil under the icecaps though, I think it's a general portrayal of humanity's greed and opportunistic ways, despite the damage we are doing we continue to exploit our planet with no consideration of the long term effects. I think the drug analogy used it a really good one, our hunger for money really is an addiction, and it's one we'll continue to feed, much like a drug addict will feel his addiction until he dies.
