I just thinks about two people how loved each a lot but they were on two different paths. They were very young, as anyone who has been in love when they were 14-15 know that they think this is were their lifes begin and will end with this girl/boy but as we al get older we realise that there is more. But i think the song recalls the story of this girl and coming back to the place (I assume its new york) and having the same sense of desire that consumed him before. If that makes any sense lol
