I respectfully disagree, and I'm pretty surprised no one else has commented on this one. Not even to make the point I'm about to make, but just in general.
I think that there's a significant other or person of interest in his life. He has some sort of feelings for them, but he just knows that this person isn't "the one." Hence "your heartbeat song; it's good but it's not the one." And as I interpret it, this isn't because of fighting or disagreements or falling out; he just KNOWS that this isn't the right person for him. It's that feeling that he describes so well as just being "out of tune" with another person.
But the song is about how although he knows deep down that this person isn't perfect for him and that there's no significant future for them being together, he still wants to stay with them (or as he puts it, "sing" with them). The fact that this relationship isn't the everlasting kind that so many people are looking for doesn't change the fact that he's happy with this other person.
