I was crazy about my best friend my senior year in high school. He was the state champion in wrestling and the captain of the football team. He was also very bright, which seemed unusual for star athletes. We were almost inseperable...until he got a girlfriend. I was floored. He had even taken me to prom. My world fell apart for what seemed forever. The irony is that years later (while in college) I returned home one Christmas to find him standing in my house talking with my father...with a gold necklace in his hand (a love knot pendant). He wanted to date me, only by then I had my first true love waiting back at college. The timing was off, only this time he was the one feeling left out in the cold. It's a good song...very simple but poignant.
