I have sort of a different interpretation for this. When I first listened to this song, I imagined her walking from the cruel world into this beautiful forest. Over time she just sort of forgot about the outside world and became part of the forest. You see, when she said the rain covered her roots,I took it literally as if she had become a tree herself. I think that the forest represents her fantasies, and she gets so caught up in blocking out reality that she forgets she is from the 'real world'. Instead of literally becoming a tree, she becomes part of the fantasy world she has created in her mind.
