Here, let me educate you all. This Iron Maiden song is named after the final book of the Bible, "The Revelation." Revelation is actually called "Apocolypse," in the original Koine Greek. This word means to disclose, to divulge. For example: imagine the government has kept certain information top secret for 50 years, and is now allowing the public to have access to it. This would be an apocolypse or revelation. For those who study the occult arts, we know that The Revelation of the Bible is thought of as a special kind of symbolism, a Kabalistic Key, to be precise. This book of the Bible is speaking of certain processes that take place within a human mind body and soul; including those of Kundalini Energy and Chakras. Kundalini is known as the serpent energy, and is located at the base of the spine. When awakened, it climbs up the spine, opening the chakras, proceeding until it attains the crown chakra.
"The venom tears my spine," is talking about the Kundalini Energy climbing the spine. At times, the energy can be painful during its ascent.
"The Eyes of the Nile are opening, you'll see," is talking about the different Chakras, or energy centers being triggered, thus opening.
The intro verse, "...take not thy thunder from us, but take away our pride," is exactly what happens during this enlightening experience. The individual becomes humbled as they enter "God's Light," the human pride dissolved, as you become unified, and One with Collective Consciousness: Christ Consciousness.
"The Secret of the Hanged Man," is another occult reference, written long before Aleister Crowley was even born. Eliphas Levi, French Occult philosopher and father of modern day western occultism, taught that the 12th Major Arcana, The Hanged Man, contained the secret of the great arcanum, which could very well be the method of entering Christ Consciousness as mentioned above. Also, "a clever path for the Fools who know," is in reference to the 0th Tarot, Major Arcana "The Fool."
At the end of the song, "No storm or heavy weather will rock the boat... the one who will be king, the watcher in the ring," states that the individual has achieved this supreme state of consciousness, and is now like a priest, or king magician. "Close your eyes and still the wind and rain," is entering the higher Kabalistic Worlds, that are no longer physical, material, fleshly. Somewhat like entering a meditative state of nothingness, beyond darkness, beyond "sin."
@AinSof Revelation, the last book of the bible is the only book that heeds a deadly warning as to, if anyone adds or removes anything from this book there will be dire consequences. If you're interested the first 2 chapters are explaining who Jesus christ is. Chapters 3 and 4 are about the 7 churches which relate to all forms of Christianity. It has warnings, and how to see the issues six of the churches have and a gift for overcoming these human issues. Only one church is blessed tho reminds the Christian not to lose his first...

The rest is difficult for most to understand as it's pictorial, poetic, and prophetic, tho is in exact order of the final battle here for 1000 years. To study this book properly it'll take the best part of a year for a couple hours a day. It is the most important book of the 66. The Apocrypha should be read too especially the Book of Enoch. It speak of the watchers who fell in love with our women and became an abomination. Also is in depth with the spiritual war which we cannot see. The Canon has removed books thru their understanding and content. As a Christian I am aware of the catholic system. Vatican City being its own country is concerning. Their repetition in prayer is spoken of by God in NT. Prayer is directly to God not man. And the most scathing scandal is that you can pay ahead for the sins you wish to commit over a period of time. To blatantly commit sin and knowing well that no man, church, or priest can forgive any sin, we acknowledge our sin and repent to God. Only he can wipe clean your sins and that's because we are all now seen thru the heart of the sinless Jesus who took on past present and future sins of all mankind that he who believes that jesus died for all and was risen by God will not die the second death, our spiritual being. That's why jesus said Abba(father), why have you forsaken me. God had to turn away from his only begotten son in his last dying moments so Satan had one last test for jesus when he was at his weakest spiritual state. Everything in those three days was Jesus's doing alone and standing firm on his father's word. In the beginning was the word, the word was God, the word is God. Replace 'word' with jesus. Jesus sets everything in motion by his father's commands. There is no trinity, he's a triune God. Last of all, Satan knows every word of the bible and can test the strongest faith. First two chapters of Job explains satans abilities and that god still has power over satans desires. Everyone thinks the ultimate sin was eating of the tree of knowledge but it's not. It's when Adam blamed Eve. Blame is hidden deep in pride. Overcome pride and your two thirds to becoming a better person. Then judgement of others and quick temper are two big players in the last third. Even as a Christian I'm no better than anyone else. It is written, ' we are just filthy rags '. So when we are scrutinised for being hypocrites, remember, we are still sinners just the same as all. We just see our sins a little clearer and are quick to repent. Besides, there are many wolves amongst the sheep who call themselves a Christian. Even tho God knows the truness of our heart our mind is emnity to God. For we bless with our tongue and curse with it too. We too are rotten to the core. We just believe in what jesus did for us and gods truth. If we're totally wrong then atleast we tried our best to be a better version of who we are. It's humbling to see changes within our perception of life. I once was a bad person in big ways. Now I am calmer and see most of my outward perception and don't react as I once did. Tho I still have many failures I struggle with constantly. I still will not allow myself to be vulnerable under any circumstance. That's a big problem but as I age and wisen somewhat some will get chipped away but I'm lying to myself if I'll allow my defences to be wide open to be seen. Not even to another Christian unless I have studied them carefully and known them well. I'll never be an open book but I'm glad some of my biggest troubles that I've held tight and refined to an art are slowly being broken down with understanding and a little trust in those that don't judge, which can be counted on a few fingers. The New Testament is where to start. The Old is history and our continuous cycle of sin, repent, forgiven and back to sin, so the cycle cannot be broken no matter how we perceive the weight of sin. It's still sin. And Maiden have been a major part of my music repertoire since early teens. Tool and Rob Zombie are a huge influence still and I'm over 50. Maynard J Keenan has to be the most intelligent lyricist when it comes to the human condition and our vices. Rock on.
