to me this song is very powerful... he cheated on a girl and its been hard on their relationship ever since. no matter how hard he tries to change she wont let him forget the pain she has endured. when he says " im only the monster you made" he feels to himself that he cheated cause of how she treated him before and after him cheating. basically saying if it wasnt for u i wouldnt be the way i am right now and i wouldnt have ever cheated on u. in the song he states forgive me for all that i have done". the second verse tells it all.... he has tried so hard to show her that hes not the same man that cheated on her but she wont let him forget it and throws it in his face all the time. " iv stoped believeing that i could ever make things change, how much can i take, when i know that it hurts you, how long can i wait, when i cant go on like this anymore....." hes given up trying to show her that he has changed. he relizes that the hurt for her will never go away and all its doing is killing him knowing the pain shes in and that he will never be able to make the pain go away for her. thats my take on this song.....
