"I love this song and the band, but the song isn't about a hooker who gets arrested.

The song starts off with a motel that is run down and is the kind of place that condones prostitution. However the girl in the song is not a prostitute but a catholic virgin, who must sleep with her employer (the attorney) to get the job. The reason she wants this job so bad is because she doesn't want to be a prostitute. Meanwhile the lawyer's wife knows that her husband requires his employes to sleep with him, but she doesn't care because she's only with him for his money. He just tells her its "strictly business" and she turns a blind eye. After the lawyer and virgin sleep together the lawyer leaves the motel and leaves the virgin there. She cleans herself up when there was "a terrible crash" which was the police breaking into the room. They search her purse for money, assuming she is a prostitute, but do not find anything because she wasn't payed for her sex. Instead of having something in her purse, she has something in "the purse of a different kind" (a baby in the womb). "What a wonderful caricature of intimacy" refers to the different types of intimacy in the one situation (the pregnant woman, the greedy wife, the cheating husband) as well as the situation the child has been conceived in.

To answer you question though: Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses- something sweet and innocent and pure (the virgin) It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses- roaches represents the lawyer and the best guesses is she thought it would be best to sleep with him for the job rather than finding another job At the shades of the sheets and before all the stains- it's basically saying that he's done this with more than one girl (shades of the sheets; all the stains- both are plural) And a few more of your least favorite things- self explanatory So in summary: I hate how something terrible (roaches/the lawyer) can ruin something sweet and pure (girls in white dresses/roses/the virgin) and what's worse is that it happens all the time." -;TheCrazyBlah

this... is what I feel it means..

this dude is so completely right, it's insane

i just want it to be known that the "there are no rain drops..." is a twist on The Sound of Music's My Favorite things, hence why at the end he says "and a few more of your least favorite things". Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses are part of the lyrics to the song which is the reference to the catholic virgin girl. Just a little more explanation!

@MaisonAdair I completely agree with you, but can you tell me what the title means--and in regard to your spot on interpretation? :)
