I think the song is about someone who put everything into and left everything behind to "follow their dreams" only to find out that it wasn't what they expected and that they weren't making it, so they have to start over again with a different goal. I think the vocalist is singing in perspective of someone who was a friend/flame before they decided to go off chasing that dream and she is saying that there will always be a place for the failed dreamer in their heart no matter what happens.
I also don't get the satellites reference, I actually came to this site to hopefully get some clarity on it. My best guess is something like "you couldn't make it as an angel, but you could be a satellite, and they still look over earth like an angel but they're less prestigious"
