even dedicated atheists often fall back on spiritual metaphors when speaking of a love so deep (as for one's child) that mere words seem inadequate to express it.
oh yeah there's also the prevalence of atheists (as I had been, for over 30 years!) who routinely include the word "God" in their speech repertoire: breaking the Third Commandment in the process. not that non-Biblical folks are much concerned about the Decalogue anyhow. hey, I'm not intending to come across all judgmental--myself having been on "both sides now," after all--just amused by the internal contradictions. which we ALL share, in one form or another.
