It's about America getting fked. Think about it. Virgin? They feed us all this stuff and force capitalism down our throats and "it's never gonna be the same".
I think he is much too smart to have such a cliche, pop-culture position like that.
Capitalism beats the hell out of socialism and communism (see: history of the world in the last 300 years for reference).

To me, this is the opposite. This is the fall of America because we've let the rest of the world dictate our actions. Our leaders lie to us and try to control us. More laws, more taxes, more government, more control.

The best part is, people my age these days think that is what they're preventing when they vote for socialist liberals or RINOs...

Right now, our two biggest political parties that harbor all our leaders are virtually the same. There is little diversity. Obama and Romney's policies are the same, they just spin them a different way.
That is what this song says to me. Whether or not the author intended it...
It's social more than political. It's about the people who built America, like the disabled soldier in the video, and their sadness and anger at watching their nation be corrupted (fall downward and rust) by the modern culture, represented by TV and Hollywood.

And I love America. That doesn't mean I love my congressman or the attorney general.

@metalmilitia141 I hear it as a political song as well. I could be wrong. I think it's a song about socialism. The chorus definitely is.
