I love this song because I feel like its so rich in intellect.
for me it symbolizes the tension a lot of people have with faith...there's so many parts of Christianity (and other religions) that deprive or devalue a lot of the world we live in today, hence the reference to gay marriage. At the same time, if you don't believe in anything then you really have little to hope for in this life. Everyone, well mostly everyone, tries to live according to some moral standard...so we all try, and we all have to try and believe in the greater good even though we can't see it around us.
Chritiianity does not devalue gay marriage. It has no choice but to follow the teachings of God/Jesus whether they are popular or not. What the secular or atheistic world sees as devaluing/depriving makes little difference to God. As Christians we are expected to follow his teachings even when they are not easy. God says to hate the sin, NOT the sinner. It is not the practicing homosexual who is hated. It is his/her actions that are not supported nor will they ever be by God and those who do try to follow His word. Interesting song....
