To me this song is completely based off of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,if you havent seen it its a movie about two lovers named Joel and Clementine who break up and cannot deal with the pain of the memories of the other person so they have their memories erased of each other but Joel is consious while the erasing is taking place and I believe its in this state that the song is written. here are some examples:

"Shes a pretty girl, shes always falling down" In the movie there is a scene where clementine and joel are laying in bed and she asks joel if he thinks shes pretty and discusses her low self esteem from childhood to which joel kisses and reassures her she is pretty.

"I think I just fell in love with her, but she wont ever remember" Joel falls back in love with Clementine after getting past the bad memories but she has already had him erased from her memory so he knows theres nothing he can do.

"Find her at the bottom of a plastic cup, drowning in drunk sincerity" Clementine is frequently shown drinking, even crashing Joels car which let to their breakup and a scene where she is drunk at a restraunt and starts going off on joel in public

"Quit crying your eyes out baby, isnt there something familiar about me?" Joel is struggling to get Clementine to remember her

"The past is only the future with the lights on" basically saying our past will better help us understand the future and make things easier for us to get through in the long run

"So take me some place far away, before i melt into the ground" Clementine tells Joel in the movie to hide her in his dark memories so she doesnt get erased

"before all my words get used against me" at the end when they are listening to the tapes of the negative things they said about the other

Thats just how I see it but hopefully anyone whos seen this movie can understand where im coming from and for anyone who has it i extremely recommend to go see it is amazing. Great song :)
