Interesting song and perfect just after the letter I opened...dated July 1987 after I had left my home state. A male student of mine (just 3 years younger than I as I was his aide) had MD and he selected me to assist him with his studies and lunchroom meals, etc. He could do very little himself. After I stopped working at the school we became friends (spent platonic time together) and he was not happy when I left the state to find employment. His letter that I discovered today in a pile of other old letters made me cry...he felt so alone in the world due to his MD and with the knowledge he would probably die at age 21 (which he did). John B was a bright, but grumpy (angry at the world for his disability) young man. Together we had so much fun...he was perfect to irriate. Whenever he got grumpy with me or someone else I refused to move him in his chair. I would make him apologize. And then I'd read to him books he hated (good classics) in an attempt to get him to explore more of the world. It was a love-hate friendship. The last letter I received from him was just before he died 6 months later...he asked me to send him a naked picture of myself:) The poor guy had to have his mother write his letters for him...I chuckle whenever I think of her having to write THAT letter :) Goodbye John. It's been a long time but you'll forever be in my heart (being grumpy with me...a mask you didn't wear too well with me:) Both this song and the concept of love are fascinating...we never stop loving a person. It's always there...it may take a different form, but true love (the one that involves friendship) remains with us in memories forever.
