I love this song, for sure. It's so dark and edgy and actually uses the word "damn" in an appropriate context. Okay,so time for me to unleash the winds of thought upon this bad baby. Heh. Right.

This song seems, to me, to be a definite portrayal of someone who is close to losing the spiritual war we all must fight (or at least someone who's fed up with it). This person has taken part in "the fall," and is therefore condemned ("damned") to Sheol (or Hell ^,^). So the narrator of this story is stuck in a rut. He/she is standing in this darkness, with enemies on every side, but can't see a damned thing (pun intended). That persons calls on God ("I wish you were here"), and presumably God answers in a BIG way ("shot in the dark"). The association with fire blazing through the darkness also suggests a way out. However, I'm not sure if this song is really about salvation. The undertones are very dark and depressing, and it seems that the person feels as if God has "faded away." Another example: "I've lost all my faith in this damned bitter strife." So it stands to question whether or not this song is ultimately about salvation from God when we are at our lowest point, when we've all but given up hope, or whether it's about that giving up of hope for rescue. To me, it's the former, but you could definitely argue for the latter interpretation. Probably.

My Interpretation

@ShadowsRainDown This song can't be talking to God because so many things make no sense by that interpretation. I wish I knew what interpretation would makes sense, but just consider what these lines mean if "you" is God:

"What did they aim for when they missed your heart?"

"In the blink of an eye, I can see through your eyes."

What can it mean that this person is seeing through God's eyes, and who is missing God's heart? Is someone shooting at God, or is this metaphorical shooting?
