I think the song is about birth, aging, and maturing as well as about a lost love. There are many metaphors relating plants and seasons to life and aging. "Someday the grapes will be wine" is very clear, in my opinion to refer to aging. They also use the grape reference again with, "Come on woman in your own time,Far, far, far from the virgin vine," suggesting that maybe the woman needed some time to get herself together, to structure her life or get her head straight.

It's obvious the singer wants this girl, but is waiting for her to be ready. But as they say, the story goes on and on.... [life keeps on]
