I'll go on believing it was about a bad ass trip, myself, because fact is they could have had an experience completely unrelated to the album cover but some outside observer just says "You're about as clear as the guy in the Obscure By Clouds album cover" so with these feelings of complete connectedness and alienation take on a recognizable form and they decide to go with the theme by making a Floyd-ish sound to accompany the lyrics. I don't think it's coincidence that this song is immediately followed by "How High Can You Fly".
