I think this is talking about people including preachers who just tell people what they want to here. And in this age where in it all comes down to what makes the most money.

"A teenager's plea for meaning and means We're selling the news.. If you shoot it too straight, it won't come back We're selling the news" A preacher who just tell people what they want to hear because they don't want to loose them. "America listens, the story is told With an eye on the truth as the story unfolds But the ratings determine if story was sold We're selling the news Begging the question, mongering fears Stroking the eyes and tickling ears The truth is seldom just as it appears we're selling the news" It's all about the ratings and if you story was the most interesting or looked the coolest not if it was the most truthful.

"The facts are simply one option to choose Where nothing is sacred, there's nothing to lose Where nothing is sacred, all is consumed We're still on the air, it must be the truth We're selling the news" This if the frustration with the fact that nothing including God seems to be sacred any more people just want a good story and they will do anything to get it. We as consumers just believe what we've been told must of the time with out even thinking about.

"I want to believe you I want to believe But everything I see is greed The fact is fiction Suspicion is the new religion" This is simply stating that we can believe anyone any more and that we are now suspicious of everything even God.
