Hmmm... kinda vague.
Seems like a soldier is given the ability to access some kind of omniscient vision, unbound by space or even time. Eventually, it seems, this reawakens some part of him that has laid dormant within him all his life, and he possibly even becomes addicted to it, and wants to live within it forever.
"Waging wars to be on my own." If taken literally, perhaps during times of war are those in which he can use this ability and be within it. If not, maybe it just means he never wants to surrender this godlike ability.
