this song's pretty straight forward i think. he's gone to the beach to "let [his] hair down" and relax. he just needs to get away for a while to clear his head because he doesn't know what to do about a stressful situation.

the line "i don't know what to think with both the curtains drawn" refers to not being able to look outside a window at the rest of the world, since the curtains are closed, therefore he cannot make a sure decision about what to do.

"and i don't know about you/ tell me something that i'm supposed to do"; maybe he doesn't know where his relationship is at with a certtain girl, but he still trusts her enough to ask her for help.

"runners don't run to me, runners don't say the same old things/racers don't bother me, racers don't say the same old things/but you always do"- he finds some consistency with this girl that he doesn't find with other people.

going to the coast sort of like his safe haven from stress
