One of my favorite songs with one of my favorite stanzas of all time (the "caked is baked" part.) Chris is pretty much writing about the lack of fame which can seem like whininess in lesser songwriter's hands but here it is funny and both to the point and obtuse, with the mother part possibly referring to Canada or their fans. I can see how people can interpret that part as a possible breakup of the band. A song certainly deserving NOT having this comment be its first by a band certainly deserving of more attention. Actually, almost any other band might make this song whinier by not deserving notoriety in the first place but the fact Sloan is a brilliant band makes these lyrics accurate and unfortunate.
@finslaw A very worthy first post however. This might be my favorite of all the songs Chris has written about the band and its history, which is saying something at this point, since there are quite a few good ones.
