I believe this is based off of the Grimm story "Fitcher's Bird" in which a sorcerer who takes the form of a beggar carries off, murders, and dismembers young women, leaving their remains in a locked room. He brings home a girl to stay with him on the condition that she NOT go in the locked room. The girl is overcome by temptation. ("what is beyond that door? As I take a step back I wonder could I go on and turn the key?")
She opens the door and finds the dismembered and bloodied bodies. ("I can almost hear anguished cries as they suffer, Welcome to the bodies!") Paralyzed by fear, she cannot flee and so the sorcerer finds that she has opened the door and kills her too. ("Eyes filled with tears will strain to see
