I have been in this situation. When I was with my girlfriend, the past couple of weeks I tried my hardest to still love her even though i knew it was over. and the last 2-3 days I just stared at the clock waiting to go home. It is the worst feeling in the world when you know something like that is over. And i feel like maybe thats what he meant by this verse.
