what it is about is obvious to everyone now. an ex girlfriend broke his heart, so he's wishing hell upon her feeling she would deserve it, and feels he's better off without her, but still feeling the pain of losing someone he had feelings for. she starts feeling regret not being able to find a better boyfriend than he was, which she can't even afford a car or a picket fence because she has no guy going to make money for her. he hopes that her seeing him around will remind her of her regret, giving her hell.
"And you're still probably working, at a 9 to 5 pace"
most likely relates to the fact she use to not work when she had a man who went to work for her (him) and now she has to go working again. sucks for her
I have no idea what the part about the picket fence refers to, unless it's something to do with how she can't afford a picket fence, which I don't know why they would choose that of all things, but the car works great. I think part of the song explains she only dates guys for money because it refers to those two things, her having to work at a 9 to 5 pace now, and that "when you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well, he's a fool" implying she'll be tricking him somehow, likely to be the case in getting money out of him.
My favorite line is "with a big smile on my face, and it never feels out of place"
I also like "when you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well, but he's a fool, you're just as well, hope it gives you hell"
some day I'm going to make a bad ass animated music video of this song.
it's a great song. I could totally relate.
