Though the landscape hasn't changed, other things have(5 years is a long time). The character has lost a partner(I know what is and isn't mine, 5 years in Sweden dying for you) and feels good having come home(good to get back to the sunshine) but s/he feels like a ghost there(It made me wish I was dead).
