I personally believe this is a song about a man realizing what he has done to a woman, and trying to correct himself. He is taking the second plan, going a different route. Life of a selfless man, selfless as in not leading her on or realizing he cannot keep trailing her on. It is hard for him because he knows it is one of his own flaws, but its the hardest one to change. He may love this woman, but not the love she needs. He has done it more than once, "isn't one enough", and she has offered herself emotionally (or physically), "giving up all she's got".
This is a truly beautiful song, and Lucy Rose backs Jack for a flawless song. One of my favorites.
