I think this is about falling out of love with someone. It's a breakup song; the person hurt her, and now that she sees the person more clearly she is "coming down" from that high of being in love with them. But it's a hopeful coming down, even if sad; she is moving on, getting back to normal, so that it's just like a faint taste in her mouth now (faint bitter taste maybe?). If that person wants to plead their case (maybe to win her back), they'd better "make it strong".
