I'm fairly certain that this song is about suicide. It shows in lines like

"Spin me round just to pin me down, I'll be gone by the nights end" and "I ran away in floods of shame, I'll never tell how close I came"

and the home that he is thinking of, is heaven. Perhaps he's joining someone he once loved who died, and perhaps they also committed suicide. Either way, this song reverberates it me so much. It's fantastic.

To be honest I dont think it was suicide, I think its lovers with one whom be almost cheatin! Almost came close to being with that other. Thats why the night ends without him in bed. Being spun around to be pinned in a strange bed? Thats why he'll be home in a little while. Why they were torn apart by greedy hands. Yes Im afraid darlin, this song is bout an almost but guilty cheating person.

Groovy none the less. <3

Have to agree with OpinionatedPersuasion. Why else upon their departure would the moon hang proud and white (pure)? Water can also refer to cleansing as in washing the shame of knowing how close he came to infidelity, and spin me around just to pin me down could mean although they parted ways, this other person never left his heart. Instead, he was pinned down to that moment and the feelings involved and although he returns home having made the noble decision, it wasn't what was in his heart for he wanted an end to a story that ended before it...

Why I was rated down and cannot at least neutralize the rating is strange... Each person hears what they want to hear, thus contributing small snipits of their own experience into translation, to really feel the story, the life of the one experiencing the song and is why music is a therapeutic relationship between the listener and the artist, meant to be personal and private.
